Privacy policy

This page explains what personal data AnimaByte collects, why, and the choices you have. We keep it minimal on purpose.
Who is responsible
The data controller is Leksan, a Norwegian sole proprietorship owned by Pal Leksan and trading as AnimaByte. Organisation number: 938 286 809.

What we collect and why
- Newsletter sign-up. If you subscribe, we store your email address, plus the date, time and IP address of your sign-up. The email is used to send occasional build notes and early-tester invites. The timestamp and IP are kept only as a record that you consented, because Norwegian marketing law places the burden of proving consent on us.
- Analytics. We use GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool, to count visits and see which pages are popular. It collects aggregate data (page, approximate country, referrer) and does not set cookies or store data that identifies you personally.
- If you email us. We keep your message and address so we can reply.
- Bug reports and suggestions. If you use the report form, we process your description or suggestion, game name, any reproduction steps or additional information you provide, and optional reply email. We use this information to investigate problems, evaluate suggestions, improve our games, and contact you when needed. To limit spam, the server keeps a one-way hash derived from your IP address for up to one hour. The original IP address is not stored with the report.
- Server logs. Our host may keep standard technical logs, including IP addresses, briefly, to keep the site secure and working.
We do not use advertising trackers, and we never sell or rent your data. Videos are hosted on our own server rather than embedded from YouTube or TikTok, so watching them involves no third party.
Legal basis
- Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)) — for the newsletter. You can withdraw it at any time, and withdrawing is as easy as giving it.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — for aggregate, cookieless analytics and for keeping the site secure, balanced against your privacy by deliberately avoiding personal identifiers.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — for receiving, reviewing, and replying to voluntary bug reports and suggestions so we can maintain and improve our games.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe, plus a short period afterwards so we can honour the unsubscribe and evidence the original consent.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to handle the conversation.
- Bug reports and suggestions: as long as needed to review the report, track any resulting changes, and handle follow-up.
- Analytics: aggregate statistics only — not tied to you.
Who processes data for us
- OVH (France, EU) — website hosting and storage of the sign-up list.
- Resend (USA) — newsletter delivery. Transfers outside the EEA are covered by their data processing agreement incorporating the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
- GoatCounter — cookieless visit statistics.
These providers act on our instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Have inaccurate data corrected
- Have your data erased ("right to be forgotten")
- Restrict or object to our processing
- Receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time — every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link

Cookies
We use no cookies at all. There is one small item stored in your browser to remember your light/dark preference — the details are on our Cookie policy page.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
